# Fibre packages

Source: https://urbanx.co.za/browse-packages

Packages are listed per Fibre Network Operator. Each package shows a download speed, an upload speed and a monthly price in South African Rand, and some are flagged as promotional, "most popular" or "gamer's choice".

## How the packages are structured

- Every package is **uncapped, unshaped and unthrottled** — no data cap, no traffic-type throttling, no fair-use slowdown.
- Billing is **month-to-month**. There is no fixed-term contract.
- Speeds are quoted as *download / upload* in Mbps, e.g. 100/100 for a symmetrical line.
- A package belongs to one FNO. Changing FNO means changing package.
- Promotional packages carry a strikeout price alongside the promotional price, and may be time-limited.

## Choosing a package

The available list is determined by the address, not by preference — an address covered only by Openserve cannot take an Octotel package. Check coverage first, then compare the packages returned for that address.

For gaming specifically, the deciding factor is usually latency and jitter rather than raw throughput. A 50/50 line on a well-peered FNO will out-perform a 200/200 line with a congested upstream path for competitive play, though higher speeds matter for large game downloads and for households sharing a line.

## Live data

Package data is served from the UrbanX API and changes as FNOs adjust pricing. Use `list_tariffs` or `list_providers` on the MCP server, or `GET /providers` on the REST API, for current pricing. Pricing, promotions and coverage change frequently. Treat any price in this document as indicative and confirm it against the live API or the MCP server before quoting it to a user.
