There is no fixed-term contract. - Speeds are quoted as *download / upload* in Mbps, e.g. 100/100 for a symmetrical line. - A package belongs to one FNO. Changing FNO means changing package. - Promotional packages carry a strikeout price alongside the promotional price, and may be time-limited. ## Choosing a package The available list is determined by the address, not by preference — an address covered only by Openserve cannot take an Octotel package. UrbanX queries the FNO coverage databases for that location and returns the Fibre Network Operators that are live there. Address matching is done against Google Places, so an exact, complete street address gives the most reliable result. Unit or complex numbers matter: coverage can differ between two buildings on the same street. Possible outcomes: - **Live coverage** — one or more FNOs can connect the address now, and their packages are shown. - **Planned or under construction** — the FNO has the area on its roadmap but cannot install yet. - **No coverage** — no partner FNO has built to the address. ## Step 2 — Package selection Pick from the packages offered by the FNOs that cover the address. A router can be added to the order, either rented monthly or bought outright. ## Step 3 — Details and confirmation Personal and billing details are captured, followed by an order confirmation. After submission UrbanX places the order with the FNO, which schedules the physical installation. Log in to the web-based Uzone customer portal (not the mobile app) and open the **Refer & Earn** section of the dashboard. 2. Send an email invitation from the portal. Above roughly 2500 Kbps that shows up as an unstable connection and dropped frames — regardless of the local line speed, because the bottleneck is the path, not the last mile. Relaying to a local endpoint shortens the unstable segment to a hop inside South Africa, so bitrate holds and viewers see fewer buffering events. The relays pair with an UrbanX uncapped, unshaped, unthrottled line: upload is not deprioritised, which matters because a stream is a sustained upstream flow. ## ExitLag Source: https://urbanx.co.za/exitlag ExitLag is a route-optimisation tool for gaming, available through UrbanX. ## What it does ExitLag chooses an optimised network path to the game server rather than accepting the default internet route. It can send the same traffic over several paths at once, so a packet lost on one route still arrives on another. In practice that reduces ping, jitter and packet loss to game servers — particularly international ones, where the default route is long and the default path is chosen for cost rather than latency. ## When it helps - Games with no South African servers, where every match is played on an international server. - Titles that route poorly from South Africa despite good local connectivity — commonly League of Legends, Fortnite, Valorant and Call of Duty. - Connections showing loss at an international hop rather than on the local line. ## When it will not help ExitLag optimises the path beyond your line. If status is clear and your line is down, the problem is specific to your connection — run the diagnostics under `/support-robotics` and log a ticket with the report attached. ## Live ping Source: https://urbanx.co.za/network/live-ping Live latency measurements from UrbanX probes to popular game servers, so you can see which server region gives the lowest ping before you queue. Probes run from three South African locations: **Durban (DBN)**, **Cape Town (CPT)** and **Johannesburg (JHB)**. Each sensor reports the current round-trip time to a monitored game or service endpoint. ## Reading the numbers - **Ping (latency)** — round-trip time in milliseconds. Under ~30 ms to a local server is good; 150 ms+ usually means the server is international. - The figures are measured *from the UrbanX network*, not from your house. Your own ping adds the last-mile segment — Wi-Fi, router and the FNO access line — on top of what is shown here. If your measured ping is far worse than the figure shown for your nearest probe, the gap is in the last mile. Test wired rather than over Wi-Fi, then use the looking glass and the diagnostics tooling to narrow it down. ## Looking glass Source: https://urbanx.co.za/network/looking-glass A looking glass runs network tests *from* the UrbanX network *to* a destination you choose, which is the only way to separate a problem on your line from a problem on the path beyond it. Enter an IP address or hostname and run a ping test. If UrbanX can reach the destination cleanly but you cannot, the fault is between you and UrbanX — your Wi-Fi, router, or the FNO access line. If UrbanX cannot reach it either, the problem is upstream of UrbanX and affects everyone using that path. Pair this with a local traceroute (`tracert` on Windows, `traceroute` on macOS and Linux) or with WinMTR for sustained measurement. A single traceroute snapshot is not enough to diagnose intermittent loss — routers deprioritise ICMP replies, so mid-path loss that does not persist to the final hop is usually a measurement artefact rather than a real fault. ## Fibre Network Operators Source: https://urbanx.co.za/providers South Africa runs an open-access fibre model.
