Octotel Premium Fibre Expands to 11 New Areas | UrbanX

Octotel has expanded its FTTH Premium XGS-PON footprint, making UrbanX multi-gig home fibre available to more eligible households across Cape Town.

The latest expansion adds coverage in Lakeside, Strand, Cape Gate, Mutual, Bree Street, Vredehoek, Melkbos, Blouberg, Sea Point, Green Point and Bantry Bay.

Customers at qualifying addresses can now order UrbanX Octotel Premium packages offering speeds of up to 5Gbps download and 2.5Gbps upload.

Availability remains address-specific. A listed area does not mean that every street, building or property is automatically serviceable, so customers should complete an exact UrbanX coverage check before selecting a package.

Eligible customers can choose between two multi-gig FTTH packages:

Both packages are uncapped, unshaped and unthrottled, with no fair usage policy. They are available on a flexible month-to-month basis, subject to UrbanX and Octotel’s standard terms and address-level availability.

Free installation and activation apply to qualifying new installations. A router is not bundled with these Premium packages, allowing customers to use compatible multi-gig hardware or purchase a suitable router through UrbanX.

What is Octotel Premium XGS-PON fibre?

XGS-PON is a fibre-access technology designed to support multi-gigabit connectivity over a fibre-to-the-home network. In practical terms, it allows Octotel to offer line speeds above the traditional 1Gbps ceiling in supported parts of its network.

Octotel owns and operates the underlying fibre infrastructure. UrbanX provides the internet service delivered over that infrastructure, including customer support and connectivity through the UrbanX network.

Who benefits from 2.5Gbps or 5Gbps home fibre?

Multi-gig fibre is designed for homes that need more total capacity than a standard connection can provide. It is particularly useful when several high-demand activities happen at the same time, including:
