# Fibre Network Operators

Source: https://urbanx.co.za/providers

South Africa runs an open-access fibre model. A Fibre Network Operator (FNO) owns and maintains the physical infrastructure — the street cabinet, the distribution points and the optical line equipment. UrbanX, as the ISP, provides authentication, routing, support and billing over that infrastructure.

This split determines who fixes what:

- **The FNO** controls the fibre line and the optical signal. A red LOS light on the ONT is an FNO matter.
- **The ISP (UrbanX)** controls authentication, IP assignment, routing and support.
- **You** control power, patch leads and the router.

## Operators UrbanX resells

- Vumatel
- Openserve
- Frogfoot
- Octotel
- MetroFibre
- Zoom Fibre
- Vodacom
- Link Layer
- PC Maniacs
- WeFNO (Wecom)
- Unifybr

Each operator has its own coverage footprint, package line-up, installation lead time and fault process. Individual operator pages live at `/providers/{slug}` and carry that operator's packages, add-ons and FAQs.

Coverage is decided per address, not per suburb: two properties on the same street can have different operators available. Always run an address check rather than inferring coverage from the operator list.
